KARWA CHAUTH: Reinventing Traditions

As Karwa Chauth is just around the corner, women are out shopping to their heart's content while preparing for the traditional ritual - Indian version of Valentines day.
What earlier used to be a home affair with womenfolk keeping fast for their longevity of their husbands has now transformed into an open display of love and affection for their beloved by the eves, both married and unmarried.

While some still opt for a quiet dinner with the family, others are going for elaborate parties and celebrations. Those who are living in rented accommodation, away from their families, are working on their own checklist as the D-day nears.

We explore the city.....
Keeping the fast, listening to the katha and
breaking the fast at night by looking at the husband after moon arrives are some rituals which cannot be tampered.

The ones who are newly wed these days are adding their own masala to Karwa Chauth preparations.

The markets are full of mehendi walas, Bangle vendors and shops selling all the necessary items for the day.
